FIDE Rule of 350 Points

FIDE Handbook.10.51 ... A difference in rating of more than 350 points shall be counted for rating purposes as though it were a difference of 350 points.

Notes: 1. It was Grandmaster Anand Viswanathan (India) who proposed to apply the rule of 350 points. 2. FIDE has been using the rule of 350 points since April 2006. 3. If you are rated 2350, and 2 your opponents 1000 each, the FIDE average of your opponents will be 2000, but not 1000 as expected. 4. If you are rated 2150, and 2 your opponents 2600 each, the FIDE average of your opponents will be 2500, but not 2600 as expected. 5. Your expected result is counted individually for each game, but not by the rating difference between you and your opponents' average as it was before. 6. If you meet an opponent and your rating is higher than his or her by more than 350 points, your expected result for the game will be 0.89. 7. If you encounter an opponent and your rating is less than his or her by more than 350 points, your expected result for the game will be 0.11. 8. If the rating difference between you and your chess opponent is less than 350 points, this FIDE rule is not applied.
